Eight years ago, a girl at the genocide museum in Kigali, Rwanda asked me to be her mother. Her question and my response were both unsettling. I couldn't find the courage to say yes, to comfort her in some small way. Since then, I've been on a quest to love better and live more fully.
My e-book, published by Shebooks, includes three stories around asking and answering the question: Will you be my mother? Author profits through May 30, 2014 will be donated to Mothers2Mothers, a nonprofit organization that educates and supports mothers with HIV/AIDS in sub-Sahara Africa.
"Jennifer Haupt writes poignanty about the connections and missed connections between mothers and daughters -- the love, the silence, the longing." -- Hope Edelman, author of Motherless Daughters
"Elissa Montanti, with little money and no experience in humanitarian aid, has changed the fortunes of more than one hundred crippled children, on child at a time." -- Scott Pelly, CBS New, "60 Minutues"
