One True Thing

I am pleased to host, One True Thing on the Psychology Today web site, a collection of essays by fiction authors and memoirists. My blog is devoted to the little and big transformations in life, as well as the question of how to create a meaningful writing life.

Check out my interviews with Elizabeth AllendeJennifer EganElizabeth GilbertJulia GlassWally Lamb and other powerful writers.

If you are a published author (fiction and memoir only) and would like to contribute an essay, please see my guidelines below. I occasionally also publish provocative self-help pies. Interviews are by invitation only.

Contributor Guidelines for Psychology Today, One True Thing:

I invite anyone who is a published memoirist or novelist to send me a brief query. (I am particularly partial to folks with new books.) I occasionally accept “how to” pieces about changing bad habits, enhancing personal relationships, or living a more meaningful life.

Please take a look at my blog for examples. Essays may relate to anything, as long as you stick to the theme of the discovery of your One True Thing. “How to” pieces must have a provocative, fresh angle.

Please keep in mind that this is Psychology Today. Your essay should be personal (not about your characters or your writing process) and show change/discovery. There will be a bio at the end of the post with links to your personal web site and a page where readers may order your book.

I input blog entries on the first of the month and sometimes the 15th. I need a draft one month prior to date of publication, and I may require edits. I regret that I can’t accept all proposals. Previously published pieces are sometimes accepted, but please make sure you have the copyright.

Thank you so much!
